ARRC, the Advanced Rocket Research Center, is an autonomous organization dedicated to the research and development of sounding rockets. Established in 2012 at National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), ARRC is funded by corporate and private donations. The primary objective of ARRC is to contribute to Taiwan's advancement in space technology by designing and manufacturing carrier rockets within the country. These rockets are capable of launching satellites and scientific payloads into orbit. One of ARRC's notable achievements is the development of hybrid rocket propulsion. This system utilizes a combination of solid fuel and liquid oxidizer, providing the advantage of safe and easy-to-store fuel. A significant benefit of the hybrid rocket engine is its reliability and affordability, as the fuel remains in a solid state at room temperature, making it less prone to explosion. Additionally, if specific propellants are chosen, the combustion products are environmentally friendly. ARRC emphasizes the key factors that make a good orbital launch vehicle, including robust thrust vector control, re-ignitable engines, deep throttle capability, precise navigation guidance and control, lightweight multi-staging, and cost-efficiency. With a team of experienced researchers and ongoing projects, ARRC continues to push the boundaries of rocket technology in Taiwan.
