## Description

Ars Inquirendi is an international scholarly conference exploring how large language models can advance research into cultures before the spread of movable-type printing. Its 2026 conference, “Querying Pre-Print Cultures with LLMs,” takes place at St Edmund Hall, Oxford, and online from 20 to 22 November. The programme brings together more than thirty scholars to examine what AI can reveal about the pre-print past, what evidence is available to these systems, and how researchers can assess the reliability of their results.

The event features keynote talks by Marieke Meelen of the University of Cambridge and Peter Turchin of the Complexity Science Hub Vienna and University of Oxford, alongside presentations, discussions and workshops. Topics include digitising and interpreting manuscripts, mapping historical records, studying languages and place-names, and addressing AI-generated errors or anachronisms. Ars Inquirendi also considers how scholars can retain control over the use of emerging technologies. Most talks are pre-recorded and released a week in advance, allowing the live conference days to focus on discussion.
