## Description

Asahikawa Winter Festival is a long-running celebration of Hokkaido’s snowy season, organized by the Asahikawa Winter Festival Executive Committee. Held in early February, around the beginning of spring on the traditional calendar, the event embraces the region’s severe winter weather and abundant snowfall through the theme “A Festival of Snow, Ice and Lights.” Since its beginnings in 1960, it has become one of Hokkaido’s major winter events, bringing together residents and visitors to enjoy impressive snow creations. Highlights include a monumental main snow sculpture, described as among the world’s largest, alongside sculptures made by local volunteers. The festival also features stage events, fireworks, food at the Winter Marche, official merchandise, illuminated displays and activities for families, including snow-themed attractions and character appearances. Its official website provides visitor information, access details, event schedules, galleries documenting past festivals, and updates about facilities and activities. The organizers also invite community participation through calls for snow-sculpture designs, event proposals, market vendors, supporters and corporate partners, helping the festival grow through local involvement.
