## Description

ASALH South Florida, Inc. is the South Florida branch of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, a national organization dedicated to advancing knowledge of Black history and culture. Chartered in 2016, the branch describes its role as bridging the university and community through education, research, and public engagement. Its mission is to promote, research, preserve, interpret, and share information about Black life, history, and culture with a global community.

The organization connects members and the public with educational and cultural activities, including branch meetings, events, media, a blog, and information about books and the South Florida Black Film Festival. Meetings are held online and at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center in Fort Lauderdale. The branch also shares historical information about Dr. Carter G. Woodson and his legacy, including his commitment to documenting African American history and encouraging a fuller understanding of the histories of diverse communities.
