## Description

The Associação de Escritores do Alentejo (ASSESTA) is a regional writers’ association dedicated to promoting literature across Alentejo and neighboring areas. Conceived in 2013 and formally established on 3 September 2015 in Castro Verde, it was founded by 15 writers born in Alentejo or strongly connected to the region. Its headquarters are at Casa da Cultura in Beja, while its cultural work extends throughout Alentejo. ASSESTA describes its role as connecting literary creators with communities interested in literary content, helping bring regional writing and writers to wider audiences. The association supports a literary community through membership for eligible authors whose books, articles, translations, theatre, screenwriting, or continuing projects relate to Alentejo. It also supports literary initiatives linked to the region. The website provides membership proposals, statutes, protocols, and information about the Joaquim Mestre Literary Prize, including its regulations and the 2017 winner. ASSESTA also maintains a social media presence and provides contact information for writers and the public.
