ASTRI, the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute, was established in 2000 by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Its mission is to enhance Hong Kong's competitiveness through applied research. ASTRI focuses on six core areas: Smart City, Financial Technologies, New Industrialisation and Intelligent Manufacturing, Digital Health, Application Specific Integrated Circuits, and Metaverse.

The institute's core research and development capabilities are grouped under four Technology Divisions: Trust and AI Technologies, Communications Technologies, IoT Sensing and AI Technologies, and Integrated Circuits and Systems. Over the years, ASTRI has garnered international recognition and received numerous awards for its innovative solutions and contributions to the business and community. It has transferred nearly 1,400 technologies to the industry, obtained over 1,000 patents, and continues to nurture research and innovation talents.
