## Description

The Berliner Beauftragter zur Aufarbeitung der SED-Diktatur (BAB) is a crucial institution dedicated to addressing the legacy of the SED dictatorship in East Germany. Established to provide support and guidance to victims of the regime, the BAB offers consultation services for individuals seeking rehabilitation and assistance with state benefits. Under the leadership of Frank Ebert, a former civil rights activist, the organization promotes educational initiatives and funds projects that enhance public understanding of the DDR's oppressive history.

The BAB is committed to fostering a culture of remembrance through public education tailored to all age groups, creating awareness of the SED dictatorship's impact, and advocating for memorial sites. Their comprehensive programs include support for schools, project funding, and engaging events such as film screenings and discussions that connect students with historical witnesses. By spearheading research and outreach, the BAB helps ensure that the lessons of the past are not forgotten, contributing to a more informed and reflective society.
