## Description

2FA Authenticator is a browser-based two-factor authentication tool designed to make account security convenient without compromising privacy. Available as a Chrome extension, it generates verification codes on the user’s device, so secret keys are not sent to the provider. The service works offline and is open source, with no sign-up required to get started.

Users can scan QR codes from their screen or import account links, then search, group, and export their accounts. Features include automatic local backups, time-synchronized codes, optional password protection with on-device encryption, and the ability to insert a code directly into a login field. Users can also create temporary links that share ready-made codes without exposing the secret key. Chrome Sync can provide an optional way to use accounts across browsers, and manual export and import are available for moving between devices.

The extension offers guides for setting up two-factor authentication on popular services, along with support for more than 20 languages.
