Avila University is a Catholic institution founded in 1916 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. With a mission of service to the community and the world, Avila offers a Liberal Arts foundation to its students. The university values creativity, passion, and a drive for making a difference in communities and globally. Students at Avila are encouraged to volunteer their time and collectively contribute over 140,000 service hours each year. Avila University has a rich history, starting as a small school in 1866 named St. Teresa’s Academy, and later becoming St. Teresa’s College in 1916. The university expanded and became known as Avila College in 1940. With a commitment to academic excellence and faith-based values, Avila continues to grow and provide a rigorous Catholic education. The university's campus is located in a peaceful suburb of Kansas City, providing students with a serene environment while being just a short drive away from the city's cultural attractions, dining, and professional sports venues.
