About
Description
The Animal Welfare Institute (AWI), founded in 1951, is dedicated to alleviating the suffering inflicted on animals by humans. Initially focused on ending the cruel treatment of animals in experimental laboratories, AWI has expanded its mission to address various animal welfare causes. Through engagement with policymakers, scientists, industry, and the public, AWI seeks to achieve several goals.
These include abolishing factory farms, supporting high-welfare family farms, and advocating humane slaughter for animals raised for food. AWI also strives to improve the housing and handling of animals in research, promote alternatives to experimentation on live animals, and reform brutal methods of capturing and killing wildlife. Additionally, the organization aims to preserve species threatened with extinction, protect wildlife from harmful exploitation, enhance the well-being of companion animals, and prevent injury and death caused by harsh transport conditions.
AWI was founded by Christine Stevens, a pioneering figure in the animal protection movement who dedicated her life to reducing animal suffering. To support AWI's efforts, you can become a member by donating a minimum of $35. Membership benefits include a subscription to the AWI Quarterly magazine and opportunities to receive free copies of published materials.
AWI consistently receives high ratings from charity watchdog organizations for its responsible use of contributions. Join AWI today and contribute to a world where animals are treated with compassion and respect
