About
Description
AWSP (Association of Washington School Principals) is a leading brand that supports principals and assistant principals in their mission to educate every student. With a strong belief that strong leaders create strong schools and students, AWSP has been an influential voice in education since its establishment in 1972. AWSP offers a diverse range of products and services to support its members and their students.
They advocate for their members and every student across the state, ensuring that their voices are heard. They provide engaging professional learning opportunities that incorporate best practices in adult learning at all career stages. Additionally, AWSP offers support in the form of coaching, mentoring, a comprehensive leadership framework, legal guidance, and more.
Promoting diversity and equity is at the core of everything AWSP does. They strive to eliminate educational disparities based on race, economics, and other dimensions of difference, ensuring that positive school outcomes are distributed equitably across all demographic and identity groups. AWSP also facilitates the development of strong student leaders through the Association of Washington Student Leaders, and operates two learning centers that cater to various educational and leadership programs.
They communicate news, updates, and information to keep every principal informed, engaged, and connected. To cater to the specific needs of different levels of education, AWSP has Grade Level Committees for elementary, middle, and high school principals. These committees ensure that the unique challenges and initiatives faced by principals at each level are addressed, giving them a voice and representation.
In addition to boards and committees, AWSP has advisory councils that provide focused feedback and planning in areas such as advocacy, professional learning, member services, diversity and equity, student leadership, and more. These advisory councils act as valuable focus groups and critical friends to AWSP. By joining a Grade Level Leadership Committee or advisory council, individuals can actively shape the future of AWSP and form long-lasting connections.
AWSP's collective mission is to ensure that schools have a culture of hope, systems to support that culture, and collaborative learning and leadership among students and adults. Their priorities include growing and supporting future school leaders, equipping all school leaders with the necessary skills and confidence, and sustaining effective long-term leadership. AWSP also recognizes and honors outstanding principals and assistant principals through their Principal of the Year (POY) and Assistant Principal of the Year (APOY) awards.
These educators, who are closing gaps, improving graduation rates, and creating inclusive school cultures, are celebrated for their remarkable leadership. AWSP also presents the Torch of Leadership Award to state government officials who have demonstrated exceptional support for principals and students. Through their dedication to supporting educational leaders, promoting equity, and fostering student success, AWSP is committed to making a positive impact in the field of education
