## Description

The Arizona State Society of the Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.) is a youth organization focused on historic preservation, education, and patriotism. It welcomes boys and girls from birth to age 22 who are lineally descended from a patriot who supported American independence, subject to the society’s membership requirements. The organization offers young members opportunities to explore American heritage, build leadership skills, and serve their communities. Members take on officer and committee chair roles, learn how to conduct business meetings and use parliamentary procedures, develop public-speaking skills, and participate in educational contests whose topics change each year. Arizona’s state society meets twice annually, while its local societies generally meet monthly from August through May. Four local societies serve communities in Sierra Vista, Phoenix, Tempe, and Tucson. The Phoenix society, Hallie Orme Thomas Society, was organized in 1925 and is Arizona’s oldest; Kachina Society helped enable the formation of the state society in 1963.
