## Description

Azin V is a pioneering clinical trial focused on reducing maternal mortality rates by evaluating the effectiveness of oral azithromycin during labor. Launched on March 13, 2025, the trial aims to determine whether this widely used antibiotic can significantly prevent serious infections among mothers undergoing vaginal birth in Nigeria, where maternal health challenges are pressing. 

The study builds on prior research conducted outside Nigeria, which demonstrated azithromycin’s safety and efficacy for pregnant women and their newborns. In collaboration with the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, this initiative will address vital questions regarding the implementation challenges, safety, and cost-effectiveness of azithromycin in preventing maternal sepsis.
