## Description

Akabane Bakamatsuri is a traditional festival with over 60 years of history, located in Akabane, Kita Ward, Tokyo. Established in 1956 by local shop owners, the festival celebrates the legacy of Ota Dokan, who built a castle in the area about 500 years ago, and aims to foster a sense of community through celebration. The festival's name, which translates to Akabane Fool Festival, connects to April Fools' Day, reflecting a whimsical spirit. While it once changed its name due to the negative connotations of the word fool, it returned to its original name in 2012.

Every spring, Akabane Bakamatsuri features vibrant parades that include a marching band, fool dance performances, colorful costumes, and portable shrines, drawing in hundreds of thousands of visitors. The festival's theme song, Baka Odori, which originated in 1971, has evolved over the years, with current choreography directed by Mariko Kikuchi. Experience the lively atmosphere and join in the fun as the community celebrates together!.
