Founded in Yaounde in 2019 as an offshoot of Bakwa Magazine, Bakwa Books is at the forefront of innovation in independent publishing on the African continent. They have become known for their exceptional writing and translations, always delivered in beautifully designed books.

As a publisher, Bakwa Books focuses on literary fiction, creative nonfiction, and translation. They work with major voices across generations and are proud to be the home of talented writers such as Hemley Boum, Nana Nkweti, Mwalimu Johnnie MacViban, and Bate Besong.

Bakwa Books engages and shapes publics and networks of practice through various initiatives, including Bakwa Magazine, BakwaCast, and the Bakwa Reading Series.
