## Description

The Bundesdeutsche Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Veränderliche Sterne e. V. (BAV) is a renowned organization dedicated to the systematic observation of variable stars, originally established in 1950 by amateur astronomers in Berlin. The BAV plays a crucial role in encouraging collaboration between amateur and professional astronomers, enabling participants to contribute to research through their observations of diverse variable star types. This includes eclipsing binaries, pulsating stars, and cataclysmic variables.

The BAV provides extensive resources such as observation manuals, photometry techniques, and statistical analyses, facilitating the collection and publication of observational data. They publish findings in their newsletters, contributing over 43,000 recorded maximum and minimum brightness measurements to global astronomy databases. Furthermore, the BAV maintains the Lichtenknecker-Database, which compiles a wealth of historical observation data.

Through events and workshops, the BAV fosters community engagement, educating newcomers while supporting ongoing research. Their mission reflects a commitment to advancing the study of variable stars through high-quality observations and data sharing.
