## Description

The Bundesdeutsche Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Veränderliche Sterne e.V. (BAV) is a renowned organization dedicated to the systematic observation of variable stars, founded in 1950 by amateur astronomers at the Archenhold Observatory in Berlin. BAV aims to support amateur astronomers by facilitating high-quality observations that contribute valuable data for professional researchers. The organization specializes in observing various types of variable stars, including eclipsing binaries, pulsating stars such as RR Lyrae, Mira stars, and eruptive stars, employing advanced techniques like CCD photometry.

With a rich history, BAV publishes its findings in the BAV Mitteilungen and maintains the Lichtenknecker Database, which archives over 160,000 brightness measurements. The BAV also encourages collaboration by organizing conventions where professionals and amateurs can exchange insights. Whether through visual techniques or modern digital methods, BAV remains at the forefront of variable star research, making significant contributions and fostering a vibrant community of astronomy enthusiasts.
