## Description

The Bay Area Mycological Society (BAMS) is an East Bay group of mushroom enthusiasts dedicated to the art and science of fungi. Established in 2006, the society brings together members ranging from beginners to professionals, encouraging everyone to learn and share ideas. BAMS holds meetings at UC Berkeley and organizes local and long-distance mushroom walks, known as forays. Its activities include the Point Reyes Fungus Fairs and All California Club Forays, as well as participation in fungal surveys at Point Reyes National Seashore and Yosemite National Park. The society is affiliated with the North American Mycological Association and hosts an active online discussion group. Through its website and community programs, BAMS shares information about local mushrooms, fungal ecology, and identification, alongside educational articles on topics such as introduced species and mushroom toxins. The organization also provides public safety information about poisonous mushrooms, including Death Caps, and encourages prompt medical attention in suspected poisoning cases.
