Aquarium of the Bay, located on San Francisco's waterfront at PIER 39, is part of the Bay Ecotarium, the largest watershed conservation organization in the city. With a mission to protect and conserve the Bay Area ecosystems, the Aquarium offers a captivating experience for its 500,000 annual visitors. Guests get up-close encounters with over 20,000 invertebrates, fish, amphibians, reptiles, and mammals that inhabit Bay area habitats. In addition to the Aquarium, the Bay Ecotarium consists of several other institutions. The Bay Institute conducts scientific research and leads initiatives to promote the health of the San Francisco Bay watershed. The Sea Lion Center celebrates the lively colony of California Sea Lions that gather at PIER 39's K Dock, offering educational programs about these popular marine mammals. The Bay Model Alliance operates an eight-acre public education facility with a hydraulic model of the bay, providing engaging programs, lectures, and films. Bay Academy consolidates and archives educational publications and creates resources for teachers and students. Studio Aqua offers interpretive planning and exhibit design services for the Aquarium and other aquatic-themed projects.
