The BC Civil Liberties Association (BCCLA) is Canada's oldest and most active civil liberties and human rights group. Established in 1962, our organization has been at the forefront of promoting and defending civil liberties and human rights through litigation, law reform, public engagement, and education. With a commitment to upholding the inherent dignity of all individuals, the BCCLA focuses on the relationship between people and the state, advocating for the protection and extension of civil liberties and human rights in British Columbia and Canada. Our work encompasses a wide range of issues, from police accountability and criminalization to Indigenous rights, national security, and privacy rights. We strive to achieve a society where everyone can fully enjoy their Charter-protected rights and liberty interests. Through our four core programs – litigation, law and policy reform, public legal education, and community-based advocacy – the BCCLA has become one of Canada's most trusted legal intervenors. Our groundbreaking test case litigation and over 100 precedent-setting legal interventions have made a significant impact on civil liberties and human rights across the country. With thousands of supporters and pro bono lawyers providing legal assistance, our work extends beyond British Columbia, with legal interventions and law reform advocacy throughout Canada.
