## Description

The North American Beaver Genome Project is an Oregon State University initiative focused on sequencing and studying the genome of the North American beaver (Castor canadensis). Led by OSU’s Center for Genome Research and Biocomputing, the project aims to expand scientific understanding of this industrious animal and its contributions to Oregon’s forest and stream ecosystems. It also seeks to raise awareness among students and the wider Beaver Nation about genome science and the role of university research in understanding the environment.

A crowdfunding campaign held from September 16 to October 30, 2015, successfully raised the $30,000 needed to sequence the beaver genome.
