## Description

Bendigo Writers Festival is a literary event owned by the City of Greater Bendigo and delivered by its service unit, Bendigo Venues & Events. With a 14-year history, the Festival has made a positive contribution to the local community by bringing writers and readers together. Following a review, the City is planning a staged return: in 2026, it will partner with Goldfields Library Corporation to deliver a program of literary events, including activities for children, while preparing for a full Festival in 2027. This work includes strengthening governance, developing clear operating principles for partners, sponsors and speakers, and confirming a sustainable model for future events. The City has also committed to developing rights-based principles that explicitly address freedom of expression and non-discrimination, involve affected communities and diverse voices, and undergo public consultation. The full Festival’s return is subject to Council being satisfied with this work. Bendigo Writers Festival takes place on Dja Dja Wurrung and Taungurung Country.
