Deschutes Rural Fire District #2, officially known as Deschutes County Rural Fire Protection District #2, has been serving the Bend, Oregon area since its establishment in 1952. This district offers crucial fire prevention, protection, and suppression services to the residents living outside the Bend city limits. Additionally, in 1991, the district expanded its charter to include emergency medical services (EMS) to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.

Covering approximately 140 square miles of suburban and forested land, Deschutes Rural Fire District #2 is entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding over 30,000 residents. The district operates under the governance of an elected five-member volunteer Board of Directors, while the day-to-day operations, fiscal and contract management, and administrative and public relations functions are efficiently handled by the paid Executive Director. To further enhance their services, the district collaborates with the City of Bend Fire Department to ensure the seamless delivery of fire and emergency medical services.
