## Description

Swiss Mountain Aid (Schweizer Berghilfe) is a Swiss nonprofit organization funded exclusively by donations. Since 1943, it has worked to support people in Switzerland’s mountain regions and help keep these communities vibrant. The organization provides financial assistance to promising local projects when a funding gap prevents them from moving forward. Its support aims to create jobs, strengthen local value creation and help counter population decline.

Projects may involve agriculture, tourism, small businesses, forestry and timber, energy, education or emergency aid. Examples include helping mountain businesses invest in their future, supporting a new cheese dairy, and assisting people rebuilding their livelihoods after the 2025 landslide near Blatten. Applicants can submit projects for consideration, while donors can choose general, project-specific, monthly, event, memorial or legacy gifts. The organization also offers opportunities for volunteer work assignments and shares information about mountain life, projects and activities through its publications and newsletter. Swiss Mountain Aid has been ZEWO-certified since 1953, reflecting its established nonprofit status and focus on supporting mountain communities.
