Berkeley Catalyst Fund (BCF) is a brand that provides investment and support for the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the San Francisco Bay Area. Managed by three founding partners, Dr. Ted Hou, Mr.

Drew Lanza, and Dr. Laura Smoliar, BCF sources deals from prestigious institutions like UC Berkeley, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and UC San Francisco, as well as from associated incubators, accelerators, and alumni. The fund aims to benefit the College of Chemistry by sharing returns through the UC Berkeley Foundation.

Additionally, BCF has a sister fund called the Berkeley Catalyst Philanthropic Fund (BCPF), which enables alumni and donors to participate in the entrepreneurial ecosystem in a way that directly supports the College of Chemistry. Many donors also provide industry expertise and support to emerging companies in BCF's portfolio. BCF's fund structure was established in collaboration with College of Chemistry Dean Douglas S.
