About
Description
Berkeley Community Garden, located in the South End of Boston, is a thriving hub for community gardening. Established in the mid-1970s, this expansive garden is one of the largest of its kind in the city. Managed by the South End/Lower Roxbury Open Space Land Trust (SELROST), a dedicated nonprofit organization, the garden offers a total of 150 plots for gardening enthusiasts. Berkeley Community Garden is renowned for its diverse range of plants and unique planting styles, showcasing everything from Asian to English to kindergarten-inspired designs.
The garden attracts an array of gardeners who speak different languages, including English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Creole, Spanish, and Portuguese. This multilingual environment is fostered through volunteer translators who assist with meetings and translate all garden-related documents into Chinese. As of 2015, the garden became part of the Trustees family, a prestigious organization that oversees community gardens, urban farms, and open spaces across greater Boston. With a commitment to maintaining and managing public spaces, Berkeley Community Garden welcomes gardeners, neighbors, and tourists to explore and enjoy its beautiful surroundings.
