About

Description

Berkeley High Jacket is the renowned student newspaper of Berkeley High School (BHS), delivering impactful journalism to its readers. Published every other Friday, this award-winning paper covers a wide range of local events at the high school as well as current issues in the world. With its name inspired by the BHS mascot, the yellowjacket, Berkeley High Jacket boasts a team of over one hundred dedicated student editors, writers, photographers, illustrators, and columnists.

Supported by a faculty advisor who provides ethical guidance and represents the paper to the administration, the Jacket has earned numerous accolades, including the prestigious Society of Professional Journalists award for breaking a story on a sex trafficking ring involving a prominent Bay Area landlord. Additionally, they have garnered recognition from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association and the National Scholastic Press Association, with the latter often likened to the Pulitzer Prize of student journalism. The Berkeley High Jacket has a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1912 as The Berkeley High School Weekly News and continues to thrive as a vital source of information for the Berkeley High School community
