## Description

Berry Creek Ranch is a small, family-owned ranch near John Day, Oregon, operated by the multigenerational Larson family, whose roots in Eastern Oregon date to the 1800s. Since purchasing the property in 1998, the family has worked to restore land that had been overgrazed and overlogged, while caring for its water, livestock, fish and wildlife habitats. Improvements include fencing designed to protect fish habitats and fish-friendly irrigation systems supporting native steelhead passage.

After the 2015 Canyon Creek Complex wildfires devastated the area and destroyed most of the ranch’s old barns, the family began rebuilding. Today, Berry Creek Ranch offers horse boarding, with a nearly 10,000-square-foot barn and arena for boarders and other users. Riders can access extensive wilderness and U.S. Forest Service lands directly from the ranch. The ranch also offers a renovated cabin as a vacation rental, welcoming guests throughout the year. Its barn and arena have hosted weddings and country music events, and served as a production base for television and online programs.
