Description
Bhutan For Life is a brand that embodies the incredible story of Bhutan's commitment to conservation and sustainability. Founded on the Royal Command of His Majesty the King, Bhutan For Life strives to maintain the delicate balance of national economic growth, cultural preservation, environmental sustainability, and social development. With a unique development philosophy called Gross National Happiness (GNH), Bhutan looks beyond GDP growth and values environmental sustainability as an integral part of its progress.
Bhutan's Constitution mandates that a minimum of sixty percent of its total land be maintained under forest cover forever, making it one of the world's biggest commitments to conservation. However, Bhutan is facing new challenges such as increased poaching, illegal wildlife trade, and low economic diversification leading to high youth unemployment. To address these threats, the Government of Bhutan and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) have launched an innovative project called Bhutan For Life.
Bhutan For Life aims to strengthen the country's organizational, institutional, and resource capacity for effective management of the protected area network. It also seeks to support the development of new sources of financing to ensure Bhutan remains economically and environmentally sustainable forever. The project's four strategic goals, 16 milestones, and 80+ major activities focus on forest conservation, socio-economic well-being of communities, maintaining biodiversity, and strengthening the management of protected areas.
From maintaining forest quality to reducing human-wildlife conflict, Bhutan For Life aims to enhance climate resilience, preserve wildlife habitats, and improve the livelihoods of communities. Bhutan's pristine protected areas are home to a wealth of native wildlife, including a viable tiger population. With over 5,000 plant species and more than 200 mammal species, Bhutan offers a haven for biodiversity.
Additionally, the country's forests sequester more carbon dioxide than it emits, making Bhutan carbon negative and playing a crucial role in combating global warming. Through Bhutan For Life, the brand aims to secure the long-term sustainability of Bhutan by addressing the emerging threats and ensuring a harmonious coexistence of nature and communities. By supporting this initiative, you become a valued contributor to Bhutan's conservation efforts and the preservation of its unique heritage for generations to come
