## Description

BibGenie is an AI research assistant designed to work natively within Zotero 7 and later. Available as a plugin for macOS, Windows, and Linux, it helps researchers and students read, organize, search, and analyze scholarly literature without moving their work into a separate application. From Zotero’s side panel, users can chat with documents and bring library items, notes, collections, annotations, and selected PDF or EPUB passages into a conversation. BibGenie supports keyword and semantic searches of a personal Zotero library, as well as scholarly discovery through OpenAlex, which provides access to more than 250 million works. Its answers link claims to source locations so users can verify evidence in Zotero. The assistant can also help manage collections, tags, and metadata, with proposed changes available for review before approval. Chat history and library indexes are stored locally, while users can choose local models, connect their own API keys, or use BibGenie’s managed service. Plans include a free option, paid subscriptions, lifetime access, and credit add-ons.
