## Description

The Big Issue Japan is a certified nonprofit organization that works to address poverty and support the social independence of people experiencing homelessness. Its central product is a street magazine sold directly by vendors: each 500-yen issue provides 250 yen in income to the person selling it. The magazine features in-depth articles, interviews, and special features on topics ranging from agriculture and energy to social issues and culture. Readers can also purchase back issues from vendors.

The organization offers additional ways to engage, including books and other products, online articles and translated stories from international street papers, and a newsletter featuring updates on new issues. It also organizes events such as talks, reading groups, film screenings, and sales gatherings. Supporters can contribute through donations and other forms of assistance, while people interested in selling the magazine can find information about becoming a vendor. Through its publications, sales network, and community activities, The Big Issue Japan aims to create work and income opportunities while raising awareness of poverty and related challenges.
