## Description

The American Biochar Institute (ABI) is an organization supporting the growing biochar industry through trusted information, standards, and coordinated leadership. Formerly the U.S. Biochar Initiative, ABI adopted its expanded identity in 2026 to reflect its role as a central resource for the biochar ecosystem. It partners with the U.S. Biochar Coalition to present the North American Biochar Conference, a gathering that connects companies, researchers, policymakers, and other participants working to advance biochar solutions.

The conference has served as a meeting point for the industry since its first event in 2009, bringing research and commercialization together and encouraging collaboration and real-world deployment. The 2026 event is scheduled for November 16–18 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Its program and community activities are designed for biochar producers, project developers, investors, researchers, policymakers, technology providers, land managers, buyers, and end users. ABI also offers organizations ways to participate through sponsorship and exhibitor opportunities, alongside features such as speaker sessions, a product and art showcase, and biochar awards.
