Takeda is a global biopharmaceutical company with approximately 50,000 employees, focused on developing and supplying medicines for patients around the world. In Belgium, it employs about 1,300 professionals and operates a major production site in Lessines. The site is a centre of excellence for purifying immunological products, with filling and packaging capabilities. Takeda combines pharmaceutical manufacturing with investment in digital and sustainable operations. In a pilot project with Belgian technology company Citymesh, it is testing a private 5G network and six industrial applications. These include multifunctional devices and mobile production interfaces for staff, indoor positioning and collision prevention, warehouse robots and automated vehicles, and smart systems to manage water and energy use. The initiative is intended to improve production processes and workplace tasks while reducing environmental impact.
