## Description

BioThings.io is a platform focused on building a FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) API ecosystem for biomedical knowledge. It provides high-performance web services that make biological and biomedical data easier to query, retrieve, connect, and reuse. Its annotation APIs cover genes, genetic variants, chemicals and drugs, diseases, and taxonomy. MyGene.info, for example, offers REST services for retrieving gene annotations, while Outbreak.info provides an open-source, standardized database of COVID-19 resources and epidemiology data. MyGeneset lets users collect, save, and share gene sets.

For developers and organizations, BioThings.io offers the BioThings SDK, a Python-based toolkit for aggregating data from one or more sources and exposing it through APIs, and BioThings Studio, a preconfigured environment for building and administering those APIs. The platform also supports API discovery and interoperability through SmartAPI, where developers can register semantically annotated APIs, and BioThings Explorer, which uses API networks to identify connections between biological entities. BioThings.io also provides API specifications, status information, and community channels for updates and support.
