## Description

Clarkson University's Beacon Institute for Rivers and Estuaries is a hub for research, policy development, and public and K-12 programming. Located just outside of New York City, the institute focuses on uncovering sustainable solutions to preserve estuaries and freshwater ecosystems in the Hudson Valley and throughout New York State. Their research explores how innovation can fuel sustainability, including the preservation of natural resources, habitats, and human health. Through community-focused science, user-inspired research and development, and broader education, the Beacon Institute aims to draw awareness to freshwater-related sustainability issues and provide inclusive environmental education to the community. Their programming includes hands-on STEAM activities, hiking, exploratory activities, and art exhibits that showcase the beauty and significance of the Hudson River Valley's ecosystem. With a data-driven approach, their team of researchers, scientists, educators, and policy influencers examines the relationship between communities, habitats, and ecosystems to benefit sustainability, public health, and economic development efforts. The institute continues to develop new facilities and projects to advance their research and academic efforts, foster the next generation of STEM professionals, and strengthen partnerships. Located in the scenic Hudson Highlands State Park, their facilities have been awarded LEED Gold certification, reflecting Clarkson University's commitment to sustainability.
