Founded by Carol McDonald, a social impact communications expert, and Kesha Bruce, an artist and curator, the brand's mission is to strengthen the bonds within this dynamic and diverse community. Through initiatives like Freedom House Salons and Black Women Cinema Week, Black Girl Basel promotes the growth and support of Black creatives.

Mavis Gragg, an attorney and art enthusiast, is also a part of the team, bringing her expertise to further empower and uplift Black women in the art world. In December 2022, Black Girl Basel will celebrate its Five Year Anniversary by returning to Miami Artweek.
