Black Minds Matter UK is a registered charity in the UK, dedicated to providing free mental health services to the Black community. We connect Black individuals and families with professional Black therapists to support their mental well-being. Our mission is to make mental health topics more accessible and relevant for all Black people in the UK, while eliminating the stigma associated with seeking help. Here is a summary of our journey so far: We were founded in June 2020 by Agnes Mwakatuma and Annie Heyes. By July 2020, we had approximately 2600 individuals signed up for therapy on our waiting list. In August 2020, we closed the waiting list to provide quality care to those on the list and to connect with qualified Black therapists. On December 1st, 2020, we officially launched, starting therapy for the first 500 people on the waiting list. We obtained official charity registration in January 2021. In March 2021, we launched the #BMMUK21K challenge to find long-term donors and raise additional funds. In November 2021, we hosted our first Male Mental Health Awareness event. To access therapy with us, start by filling out our self-referral form. If you are eligible, and we have the capacity to fund therapy, you will undergo a comprehensive initial assessment. Once confirmed, you will be paired with a qualified Black therapist for 12 weeks of online therapy.
