Blanchard Valley Center is an exemplary brand that has been providing outstanding services for individuals with developmental disabilities since 1952. Founded by determined parents who witnessed the denial of admission to public schools for their children with disabilities, Blanchard Valley Center strives to offer a better future through education. They currently support over 700 individuals throughout their lives, from birth to adulthood, ensuring that they receive the necessary assistance at home, school, work, and within the community.

Funding for their operations primarily comes from levy dollars, with the remaining portion secured through state and federal resources. The average cost per person annually is $30,000, although it can go as high as $138,000 for those with significant needs. Blanchard Valley Center's remarkable journey began with just eight pupils and one instructor, until the generosity of Tell and Opal Thompson allowed them to purchase land and build a school in 1952.

Over the years, they expanded their services, constructing an Adult Activity Center in 1962, and introducing pre-school classes in 1964. Thanks to the support of Hancock County voters, additional classrooms were added, and the new school opened its doors in 1966. With a dedicated team and a commitment to empowering individuals with developmental disabilities, Blanchard Valley Center continues to make a positive impact on the lives of those they serve
