The Bloedorn Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing the various challenges faced by vulnerable children, families, and at-risk citizens in the Greater Washington DC area. With a focus on health, education, and well-being, the foundation strives to enhance the quality of life for those in need. Through grants, the foundation supports a wide range of initiatives, such as education and after-school care, job training, and health and housing needs.

Each year, they carefully select and vet organizations through interviews and site visits to ensure that their support has the maximum impact on the local community. Additionally, the foundation launched The Maddux Initiative in 2015, which fundraises to aid early childhood and special needs families at risk in the Washington D. C.

With over fifty years of philanthropic impact, the foundation has donated nearly fifteen million dollars. Founded by Walter A. Bloedorn in 1966, a former Navy medical doctor and Dean of George Washington University’s Medical School, the foundation continues to be guided by a board of local Washingtonians, with its assets managed by independent financial managers.
