## Description

The Blood Emergency Readiness Corps (BERC) is a vital coalition of blood centers across the United States dedicated to ensuring a robust and quick response to mass transfusion emergencies. In a world increasingly affected by health crises like COVID-19, BERC was established to address the urgent need for blood during large-scale disasters such as mass shootings, natural calamities, and major accidents. The organization facilitates an innovative "on call" system, allowing participating blood centers to collect and maintain additional blood reserves, ensuring that life-saving units are readily available when crises strike.

Recognizing the limitations of current blood donation rates, BERC effectively bridges gaps in supply, preventing delays that could jeopardize patient lives. With collaborative efforts among blood centers, BERC is not only reshaping emergency preparedness but also enhancing the capacity of hospitals and EMS agencies to manage high-demand situations. By fostering strategic partnerships and preparedness, BERC exemplifies proactive healthcare solutions, ready to protect communities in times of need.
