## Description

Blue Mountains World Interdisciplinary Innovation Institute (bmwi³), also known as Blue Innovations, is an Australian not-for-profit research institute founded in 2021. Based in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, it works locally and globally to advance biomedical technology and improve health and quality of life. The Institute brings together scientists, engineers and creative thinkers from public, university, industry and government sectors, encouraging collaboration across disciplines, generations and biological systems. Its research and innovation focus on understanding complex challenges at the intersections of human and environmental health, and translating discoveries into practical solutions for wellbeing. Services and activities include convening interdisciplinary teams, supporting research and discovery, and developing and translating intellectual property generated through its own innovations. The Institute’s in-house boutique uses revenue-sharing arrangements to incentivise partners and inventors while supporting organisational sustainability. It also plans a regional biomedical technology incubator to provide community-facing expertise, infrastructure and support, with a focus on improving health outcomes and quality of life for Australians.
