## Description

The British Oceanographic Data Centre (BODC) is a national facility managed and operated by the National Oceanography Centre. As the UK’s National Oceanographic Data Centre and a marine data centre within the Natural Environment Research Council’s Environmental Data Service, it preserves and distributes oceanographic and marine data. Its collections include more than 130,000 unique datasets, supporting research and understanding of issues ranging from coastal flooding to climate change.

BODC provides services for searching and accessing marine data, as well as guidance and tools for researchers and organisations submitting data. Its resources include inventories, cruise records, metadata, marine vocabularies, data formats and deposit guidance. Users can explore data on sea levels, water samples, ocean profiles, currents, waves, gliders and other observations.

The centre also offers data products, software and web services, including resources connected with GEBCO bathymetry and the NERC Vocabulary Server. BODC contributes to collaborative projects such as Argo, MERMAN and GEBCO, and serves as the UK Argo Data Centre and the Southern Ocean Argo Regional Centre.
