## Description

Ljasnoe Bortnictva is a traditional Belarusian forest craft that embodies the ancient practice of beekeeping, deeply rooted in cultural significance. This heritage craft nurtures a harmonious relationship between humans and nature, involving the care and protection of bees in their natural habitats such as forests, marshes, and meadows. Practitioners, known as bortniks, maintain beehives crafted from hollowed tree trunks and diligently preserve the ecosystems essential for bee survival.

The craft is steeped in a wealth of cultural traditions, encompassing knowledge of the natural world, customary laws, and intangible cultural heritage including folklore, rituals, and folk medicine. Furthermore, it is characterized by unique tools and practices, such as handmade beehives and techniques for honey extraction, passed down through generations.

With its historical roots tracing back to the 10th century, Ljasnoe Bortnictva remains a living tradition, practiced by over 300 families in the Polesia region today, ensuring the continuation of this vital cultural legacy.
