## Description

Oxford Computational Neuroscience Laboratory (OxCNL) is a multidisciplinary research laboratory within the University of Oxford’s Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences. Its work combines computational neuroscience, deep machine learning and large-scale healthcare data to investigate the brain’s neurophysiological processes and their relationship to cognition, behavior, language and disease. The team brings together expertise from fields including neurology, mathematics, engineering, physics, psychology, philosophy and surgery.

OxCNL develops systems that combine information from multiple devices and sensors to build patient profiles and identify patterns associated with neurological and mental health conditions. Its research spans multimodal diagnostics, computational analysis, linguistic assessment and experimental therapeutic approaches, including optical neurosurgery. The laboratory also studies brain circuits and explores technologies for reading and influencing neural activity, with longer-term interests in neural implants and brain-computer communication. Its stated aims include improving the detection and understanding of disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, depression and PTSD. OxCNL collaborates with academic and research institutions and participates in the Human Brain Project.
