## Description

It connects young people with screened, trained adult mentors who also live with T1D and understand the everyday challenges of managing the condition. The program is free for families and operates in 19 states, with plans to reach more communities.

After families submit a short form about their child’s age, location and interests, braveONE seeks a mentor whose experience, personality and interests are a good fit. Matches build their relationship through regular outings and activities, such as bowling, ice cream, horseback riding or school visits, with ongoing coordination and support. The goal is to help young people feel understood, less alone and more confident throughout the year, beyond camps and other gatherings.

Adults with T1D can apply to become mentors and receive training and support. Individuals and organizations can also help fund matches, outings, training, background checks and Welcome Warrior Boxes.
