Established in 2009 by Michigan State University Extension, this program invites individuals and families to engage directly with farm operations, witnessing the hard work and dedication of local farm families in producing safe and wholesome food. Over the years, nearly 92,000 attendees have participated in these events, making it a vital educational platform enhancing public understanding of modern agriculture. The inaugural event took place at Dutch Meadows Dairy, owned by the Jandernoa family, and its success has inspired a series of annual breakfast events throughout the state. Participants not only enjoy a delicious breakfast but also gain invaluable insights into food production processes. With plans to return in 2025, Breakfast on the Farm continues to foster a connection between urban consumers and rural agriculture, ensuring everyone understands where their food comes from.
