## Description

The Brecht-Weigel-Haus in Buckow is a museum and memorial dedicated to writer and dramatist Bertolt Brecht and his wife, actress and theatre director Helene Weigel. The couple chose the property as their summer residence in 1952, and Brecht wrote his final poetry cycle, the Buckow Elegies, there in 1953–54. Open as a museum since 1977, the site is owned and operated by the Märkisch-Oderland district.

The protected ensemble includes three houses and a garden overlooking Lake Schermützelsee. Visitors can explore the former residence, with its original furnishings, and a multimedia exhibition about Brecht’s play Mother Courage and Her Children, featuring original 1949 production props. The museum also presents temporary exhibitions and maintains a reference library of more than 900 books and publications related to Brecht and Weigel.

Throughout the year, the Brecht-Weigel-Haus offers readings, concerts, talks, discussions, films, guided tours and other events. The venue also accepts enquiries about private museum use, weddings, workshops, writing retreats and garden picnics.
