BRIDGES, formerly known as Rockland Independent Living Center (RILC), was founded in 1987 with a mission to advocate for and lead efforts on behalf of individuals with disabilities. As a community-based, peer-driven, cross-disability organization, BRIDGES is dedicated to improving access and enhancing the quality of life for people with disabilities. Operating as one of the 41 Independent Living Centers (ILC) in New York State, BRIDGES offers a range of programs and services.

These include peer counseling, independent living skills training, information and referral, individual and systems advocacy, and transitional support. BRIDGES is governed by a Board of Directors, with majority representation of individuals with disabilities, ensuring that the organization remains dedicated to its mission. With a vision of establishing a barrier-free society, BRIDGES strives to empower individuals with disabilities to make autonomous decisions and advocate for equal access to opportunities.
