## Description

The Bristol Statehouse Foundation is a nonprofit organization established in 1997 to acquire, restore, preserve, and find a sustainable use for the historic Statehouse building at 240 High Street on the Bristol Common in Bristol, Rhode Island. The Bristol Statehouse and County Courthouse is the third building to occupy this site, which has a history dating back to at least 1684, when a meeting house stood there. The Foundation’s mission is to maintain the restored building as a place for studying, appreciating, and enjoying national, state, and community heritage. It brings history to the public through exhibits, lectures, reenactments, and other educational programs that explore American history, freedom, and the nation’s multicultural inheritance. The organization also emphasizes engaging young people in Bristol and the surrounding region, with activities designed to introduce them to these historical and civic values. Through preservation and public programming, the Foundation connects the Statehouse’s historic setting with opportunities for learning and community enjoyment.
