The Zoo participates in nearly 30 international Species Survival Plans, focusing on critically endangered species. They have successfully reintroduced animals like the Guam Rail, Arabian Oryx, and Golden Lion Tamarin into the wild, showcasing their commitment to protecting endangered wildlife. Education and research are at the core of the Zoo's mission. Their educational programs reach thousands of children annually, raising awareness about wildlife conservation. Additionally, the Zoo collaborates with the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine for research and behavioral studies. Owned and operated by BREC (Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge), the Baton Rouge Zoo is supported by the Baton Rouge Zoo Foundation.
